Stop SPAM

Ball Fraudulent E-Mail Alert! Ball
Blue bar

E-mail has become such a playground for idiots, that those of us with a valid need for honest and solicited communication need to watch not only our accounts and incoming messages, but we also now need to be aware that fraud and defamation can occur. This message is mainly to inform you about such fraudulent activity, and to protect my reputation. Also, on the incoming side of things, I have invoked new tools to monitor my incoming mail. It seems that SPAM will never go away. There will always be some means for these folks to get away with abuse. All we can do is fight it, and use tools and provide information to help eliminate what we can from our reciepts.

Perhaps you would like to try my robust Mail Filter Software! It's simple, easy to use, yet loaded with features! Free 30 day trial!

I hope the information below is informative and beneficial.

Fraudulent and Virus e-mail

Those proverbial malefactors are always at it (and holding no quarter), sending e-mails with viruses attached. As with many other innocent people, some appear to be from me or this site. I assure you that I will never send such messages. Some ask you to open an attachment. I've been getting these also. Some appear to be from roosl@roosl.com. Some are from roosl@whatever. Some are from whatever@roosl.com. Not all of these are virus related, but are bogus and may be advertisements, as well.

If you receive any e-mail that appears to be from roosl or roosl.com, and it is rude, offensive, spam-related, or just not what you should expect from this honest Christian, please let me know immediately! I may not be able to find out who it is, or stop it, but I'll certainly look into it. I will not tolerate anyone alienating my visitors, friends and associates, especially pretending to be me.

It's easy to fool (also called "spoofing") SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) with a "from" address that is anything you want it to appear as. It only needs to "look like" a real address, e.g: string@string.domain. That's how some valid use of the process allows one to send mail with a "reply to" of another address.

I hope you have and use the latest antivirus software! I can't stress enough how important that is. It has saved my PC before. It's good stuff! As well, I have mine setup to scan my outgoing messages too, just in case something I forward might contain something. It also automatically updates itself with the latest virus definitions.

If you don't use an antivirus program, get one! Even if your e-mail messages remain outside your PC (such as AOL, Yahoo, hotmail..), that is, you don't download your mail with a client, get one anyway. I personally like Symantec, and feel it's the best, but get a good one, no matter who the vendor is!

Identity Theft

Also be wary of e-mail, virus or not, that appears to be from someone you know, but may not be! Don't fall for this and end up alienating an innocent friend or aquaintance. Imagine if someone defamed you and you didn't know about it!

Although in most cases, no monetary theft occurs, and such common goals of ID theft are not achieved in this way, it is still identity theft!

Other Tools

I have developed a mail filter/spam blocker program, which scans POP servers and deletes unwanted mail from the server so that my mail client doesn't even download it. Although my antivirus software has always caught viruses, and my client has filters and rules (for what they're worth), this tool eliminates blocked senders and subject content before they're downloaded, which also speeds up my download time!

Blocked Senders

My blocked senders list is growing daily! However, I do try to give a benefit of doubt to addresses that seem to be innocent unawares. Any and all mail obviously from idiots, porn, unsolicited advertising and spam mongers is blocked, and in fact, I have many entire domains blocked. If your email address happens to be at a domain from which this type of garbage is frequently sent, I have probably blocked your provider's entire domain, and will not see your mail. You may want to find another ISP!

If you have sent me any honest mail, and I have not replied, please call. If your address or domain is in the following list, and you are not part of the problem, either (1) let me know by sending me a message from another account, or (2) change to another ISP. Also be certain your subject line doesn't contain anything I am blocking.

Here is my anti-spam tirade, access to my list of blocked senders and subjects, and related topics.

Thank you,
-Roosl
