  • Greetings!

July was a busy time for Roosl! There is a lot of news in this issue... Great site updates such as new contact information, logos, access to back issues of the newsletter, a lot of fun updates to the 3-D gallery, and more!

Allow me to extend a very special welcome to new subscribers! I am very excited to see new interest in Roosl's Graphic Design! Numbers of new and returning visitors to the website have been increasing lately! It's great to meet you! I trust you'll continue to find the website and this newsletter interesting, and find the time to visit often. Depending on the category of interest you have chosen, you may receive updates with varying themes and appearance. Remember, you may always update your interests and personal information at any time via the sign-up box at Roosl.com. If you prefer to receive the text version of this letter, you may now also specify that desire, although I do hope you're able to enjoy the HTML version. Also, each e-mail you receive will have a link to unsubscribe or change your areas of interest. Below also find news about back issues, my privacy policy, and more!

    Java anyone?

Hopefully you've noticed (and appreciate) the new Java applets and Javascript functionality I've been adding to the website. I realize that some web authors abuse these tools, but they're also nicely used by many more. In fact, mine also sometimes "pop up", but I do try to offer something nice, meaningful and useful, as well as make good, fun use of their features.

A few years ago, I had tried some of this "stuff" (although limited), such as a cumbersome applet in the services page. I had abandoned them for some time, simply because the older tools I used weren't that great, and because most of us used 28K or slower modems, and the usefulness of applets became less important than a page that took several minutes to load. Lately, more folks have better access/speed, and the majority have come to accept widespread Java use. My stats show that 99% of visitors have Java and javascript enabled in their browser.

One very useful application of javascript allows me to provide a menu of the entire site from within any "stand alone" page opened from outside. For example, if you follow one of the "quick links" at the end of this letter, you might open my gallery page, but you cannot access the rest of the site from that page. A recent javascript addition allows you the option of opening a window containing the site navigation menu, which appears as it does in its own frame when Roosl.com is entered via your browser.

Some applets open a new window for themselves so that the parent page doesn't need to wait for the applet. You can then view the applet if you like, and move it anywhere you want on your screen. The first time you find an applet, it may take a minute (usually less) to load and run, just as a web page does the first time you visit it. These applets are often interactive, too! Experiment with your mouse, and you'll find some pleasant and fun surprises or "cool" effects! A caveat of this feature is that visitors who use "stop pop ups" tools (do those work well?) may also stop the good presentation along with the bad!

    Editor's Note
Last month I mentioned fraudulent e-mail that appears to be from me. I have also posted a notice so that new visitors to the website may view that information. If you have ever (now matter how long ago) received or receive e-mail content from "me" that you even suspect I am not aware of (other than obviously bogus advertisements), PLEASE let me know! I cannot tolerate anyone alienating my friends, associates, or certainly anonymous subscribers to this newsletter. I thank you, and with that said... Onward and upward!

I have posted a newsletter information and preview page at the website. New subscribers may not have yet seen this information, and potential subscribers may now find out more about this newsletter before signing up. Everyone may now also view back issues from this new page, which also contains my (your) privacy policy. You can know that I follow a commitment to your privacy and the protection of your information. My complete privacy policy is posted for your review. Also, you may be confident that no one may obtain e-mail addresses of my subscribers by becoming a subscriber.

You receive this newsletter because (a) your email address is either listed as someone who has expressly shared your address for the purpose of receiving it ("opt-in"), or (b) I have added you as a subscriber due to an existing relationship.

Also worth noting, toward that kinder, gentler spam free environment, for which, through this medium I do my small part... If a person doesn't use a valid mail account, or has certain language in a message, I will not see the e-mail! By "valid" I refer to sending mail via nuisance domains, such as "greatoffers.net", "onlinecasino.com" or "viagra4u.com"... You get the idea! As I know many of us are doing lately, I am blocking and deleting any and all junk, spam, porn, and most advertising. My list of blocked senders, and in fact entire domains (anyone@domainxyz), is growing every day! Some days it's kinda fun to watch 65 of 90 e-mail receipts go right into the trash folder!

    3-D Gallery News
Okay, boys and girls... If you like sci-fi, special effects and space stuff, you'll like the new series of images. In the "Voyage" series, you'll see the voyagers at their home space port, then a nice view from one of Jupiter's moons as the starships pass by, and finally, the climax (Now that isn't a nice thing to do to planet Earth)! ... Another new series is of my "Cybher" female cyborg. See her in these new images defeating the cpyber!

Also, please enjoy the latest redux! Several favorites have been updated with higher resolution, nifty effects, and some are also larger. It's hard to believe that some of the originals date back to 1996!

Return visitors may notice some of the older images are being redone. Due to recent upgrades (see last month's issue), I've decided to enhance many of the older images while between ideas for new works. In some cases, I may have just re-rendered the scene for the better effects. In some, I've also added elements, improved lighting effects or the general quality of the result. I'm certain that you'll enjoy the improvements! When revisiting, if you don't see new imagery, or the "redux", try refreshing the page. Depending on your browser setup, you may be viewing a previous cached visit on your hard drive! This is true for any page, and in Internet Explorer, you may prevent it. In Properties: General tab.. Temporary Internet files.. Settings.. for "Check for newer versions of stored pages", select "Every visit to the page".

Would you like to use a 3-D scene from the gallery as your Windows wallpaper? One of the topics in the new FAQ section on my "Intro" page answers that, and I've decided to offer free image format conversion and screen resolution sizing just for you!

    Logos!
As you may know, one of my primary services is that of logo design. Of the graphic genre, logo design has long been a favorite of mine to do.

My first real (actually used in the world) design was hand drawn many years ago. Now of course, there is still the hand drawn as well as the opposite extreme of the computer 3-D canvas, and the combination effect.

Anyone from individuals to small businesses, churches and rock and roll cover bands can use a logo. Do you have a business card? Does it sport a logo for your name or product? Remember, Roosl also offers special deals for bands and musicians!

I've added a new page of logo designs where one may view examples, as well as production designs used or currently in use. Check them out!

    Contact Info
A new page is now available containing detailed contact information. You may now find telephone info and several topic-specific e-mail address links in one place.

Each e-mail link throughout the site is now set up to send mail to the relevant name@roosl.com so that I can sort and prioritize mail from visitors like you! This enables me to quickly notice and respond to messages first that you and I feel are important.

I'm sure you agree that this feature will offer a better and quicker way to get specific response to your contact with Roosl!

Also note that I've begun posting an FAQ section in response to certain questions or topics I've received. Unless (or until) the FAQ list grows, it may be found in the "Intro" (main) page.

    Contest!
Well! Everyone responding to last month's contest guessed the location of the castle as that of the castle in the scene "Highland Sunrise" in the gallery. Good guess, but that is not the hidden castle! Better luck next time...

Here is this month's contest! How many star planes are there in "Gravitation"?

The first person who e-mails me with the correct answer wins that restaurant gift certificate!

I will announce the winner in the next newsletter!

    Kudos to God
As always, make a time and space for God...

Forever grateful to God for His given blessings, I can't say enough about God and what His presence and meaning are to me in my daily life.

As we savor these dog days of Summer, reminiscent of those of our youth, always keep in mind that tried and true, or new - Faith in God, prayer, and honest, happy work with Him by your side bring all the pieces together!

Remember to "Work like you don't need the money"... and "Dance like nobody's watching"
