A Little long overdue... ..news and Well Wishes
January 2008

Greetings, Roosl,

Well, it's been awhile, eh? I finally have some news and some time for catching up with you people, and I also want to welcome you new subscribers.

I have important news regarding software updates, and while that's the biggest topic, I also want to see how you're doing and introduce my new employer!

I won't mention the wonderful weather here, since it's around 60 and sunny in January. Oh dang, there I go...

I do hope this finds you well, and however you find the time of year where you are, I hope you enjoyed the holidays, and have a great 2008!

  • The neglected Gallery...

    *sigh* he whispers...
I'll bet you don't believe me, but now that I'm getting the software work caught up, I do intend to do some new imagery for the gallery.

Lets's see how the coming months play out, eh?

    Significant Software Updates

Significant updates to all software offerings are now available for download. While you may not have a version of a particular program (but especially if you do, or perhaps you want to try one you don't have) I do want you to know that these updates fix many problems with the old schtuff!

The problems resulting from legacy support (such as poor window positioning and appearance, font problems and the like) are being eliminated with these newer versions, designed for popular high resolution displays. Some of these improvements will also support Vista but are generally designed for XP.

That large image at the top of this letter is the new Mail Filter icon, which (sized for Vista support) is so much nicer with XP!

Roosl's Mail Filter 4.5 was the 1st to adopt these many improvements.

This upgrade consists primarily of enhancements to the interface appearance and behavior. Toward future support for Vista and the improvements in XP SP2, I've redesigned many of the windows and how they display. You'll find these improvements easier on the eye, as well as your mouse! You'll notice new icons as well.

Legacy support for Dial-up has been removed. The program now simply assumes you're online.

All these and other important features are in the updated description/download page and included in the bundled (also improved) user guide.

This is the best yet. If you haven't tried it, go grab a 30 day free trial. If you have it, please go grab an upgrade!

All other programs have also been updated and new stuff is in the works!

New in all releases is the significant improvement to the UI (as noted for my Mail Filter). As well:

    • All have performance improvements.
    • Various minor bug (annoyance) fixes.
Don't forget to check out all the software selections in my Custom Windows Software section! And remember.. Support is always just an e-mail away!

Please see the details and many features of each of these programs at the updated description/download page. Download links will also be found there.

Similar to how anti-spam software can sometimes mistake valid e-mail as spam, some anti-spyware programs can mistake benign software as spyware. A recent release of one vendor's spyware definitions mistook one of my distributions as such. I assure you that I will never release such software. If your anti- spyware program thinks that anything you have from me is such, you may confidently flag it as "ignore", or "keep", depending on your anti-spyware settings. You have my promise that there is no malicious code!

    Meet the new boss...

Other news I'm happy to share is my new employer (my daytime gig)!

I am now enjoying my days doing UNIX patch content engineering at Lumension Security (formerly PatchLink). Our team builds the patch content for support of Solaris, SuSE and RedHat Linux, AIX (IBM) and HPUX as well as all Microsoft patches supporting all versions of Windows and Apple Mac OS X!

Lumension is a growing company located in Scottsdale, AZ. Visit our website!

    New digs with new gigs...

Along with the new gig came a nightmare hour-plus, 30-something mile commute, so we've moved the comfort of home to Phoenix, near Scottsdale.

The new commute is short and sweet, and wouldn't you know it: Now I have a 10Mbps LAN internet connection where I can work from home!

    Time and Space

    God,

Many would have us doubt your existence.

Yet, I know You, and that you cannot be easily explained.

Thank You for the time and the things that have passed, and again for tomorrow that my time today, and the perspective you show me, will bring.

Forever grateful to God for His given blessings, I'll always have time and space for what His presence and meaning are to me in my life...

See you soon! Be careful out there and have a wonderful New Year!

    my 2 cents
Returning to the next newsletter - My Two Cents!

Forgive me or join me as I probably rant about spam or (more fun) the ridiculous content these idiots come up with! I've seen some real doozies lately.

Who knows. Maybe I'll find something else worth my 2 cents!
