  • Greetings!

I hope you enjoy this introductory issue of Roosl's Graphic Design Newsletter! Since this is new, I am sending this premier issue unsolicited to a select list of recipients. If you recieved this issue in error, please accept my apologies. A new sign-up (opt-in) feature is appearing now at my website. You will not receive future mailings if you ask me to remove you from this initial subscriber list. That will not remove you from my regular e-mail address book.

In this issue, read about the new attitude, some history behind this project, the redesigned website, and big ideas and plans!

    Hey, He's Serious!

What is now Roosl's Graphic Design began in the Summer of 1996 with a cavalier approach, more as a hobby, something fun to do, a creative outlet. At that time, the internet as we know it now was just beginning to evolve from the straight government and university research network it grew from. Even Yahoo! was new, and most stuff out here was nothing like we see today.

While I thought it would be nice to offer services online and maybe make a few new friends and a few dollars, I always had a full time day job, so I just let this ride. All the while, I did spend a number of late hours on graphics, especially 3D imagery here.

This Spring, I made up my mind to dedicate myself to this freshly energized project, and now you see one of my first real marketing efforts!

The active website is getting frequent updates! New information, more activity for visitors and fresh artwork are continually being added and changed. Examples of work done for clients, such as logos, and links to websites are being posted when acceptable.

    What's Next?
So, what's the big idea? Well, I'm building a hard copy portfolio which folks seem to like. I've begun advertising with new flyers, new business cards, and posted ads at several internet places, some tailored to musicians. I've also begun campaigns such as the one you're reading now, and placed ads in (what I'm led to believe is) some 90,000 e-zines.

I intend to market heavily toward the individual, small business, churches, schools, anyone! Bands and musicians get special deals on logos and web pages.

I have chosen to avoid marketing activity that may even seem like spam. I've looked into several mailing campaigns, and this is the only one I've found that doesn't end up looking like so much other junk mail.

Please try the sign-up/opt-in box at my site, if you like. I will remove you from the subscriber list I began for this introduction if you ask me to. Please, feel free to forward this to anyone you want!

    Hand Crafted
All site design, layout and artwork is done with good ol' hand crafted HTML and original imagery. Not only does this allow me to better customize a site, but it keeps me up to speed on the code and some great tools.

I've resumed adding Java applets and Javascript to the site. A few years ago, I added some, though limited. Lately, though, more folks have better access speeds, and the majority have come to accept widespread Java use. My stats show that 99% of visitors have Java and Javascript enabled. Just drag your mouse over the image on my front page! Hint: It has water on it.

The entire site is replete with imagery. That is the primary purpose for this work, and development of this site: To develop and display artwork, and offer my services as a graphic and site designer, as well as have a wonderful time with this. So, I pray more folks find interest in what I'm doing here!

All art, save a few icons linking to outside sites, and a few favorite works (from influences such as The Moody Blues albums) is original work.

    3-D Art Gallery
As my career led me into Information Technology (IT), I spent the 80's, the 90's and the last few years involved in what has become.. well, the modern access and communication technology we all know and love today (even though we sometimes wonder if it's really all that great). This medium presented itself as a whole new canvas for me. Hence, what you see and what has grown into Roosl's Graphic Design!

While I have so much enjoyed all aspects of this, probably the most fun and creative flow has come from and through 3D modeling and raytracing.

I've written much detail about this and other imagery detail at the site. Visit and check it out!

This stuff REALLY makes sitting on the Xerox to photocopy your ass seem an even more ridiculous way to spend one of life's moments than you thought.

    Bands and Musicians
Of special note... Having organized and played in bands, I also provided web pages and designed logos for those projects.

Understanding the aspects of bands, bookings, promoting (and since that was so much fun), I decided to offer special deals for bands here.

Musicians, and the proverbial struggle of those weekend warriors hold a special place in my heart.

    Kudos to God
I am forever grateful to God for His given talent. I can't say enough about God and what His presence and meaning is to me.

I've realized so much over the years how much God has played a role in my life. Most recently, however, so much more so.

I have learned no doubt that Faith in God, prayer, and knowing that honest, happy work with Him by your side brings all the pieces together.

Do we "Work like we don't need the money... and Dance like nobody's watching?" Or do we worry while we toil under the influence of others' expectations, and dance as fast as we can?

    Thanks!
Well, I hope you enjoyed my first issue. As friends, associates and family, I took the liberty of practice with this new medium out on you!

I hope this finds you well.

    Thanks! See you soon!
