An un-Expect'd Missive ...the root of it all...
September 5, 2005

Hi Roosl,

Alright, so it's about time this clown had something to say...

So, what have you been up to this Summer? All good stuff, I hope.

I've been pretty busy at the day gig, and have some fun projects there to tell you about. Otherwise, just.. you know.. Staying out of trouble.

I also have a bit of nifty news regarding the gallery. No, unfortunately, no new imagery.. But it's pretty cool!

We have had a decent monsoon season here in the Valley of the Sun this Summer. Those storms are really kinda neat, although I didn't enjoy the tree trimming that follows.

Of course, given the past week since I began editing, a little tree trimming is nothing compared to what the souls on the Gulf coast have endured.

  • Great Expectations

My outside day gig in UNIX security has offered some great opportunities to ply my trade favorites. I've been developing many tools to automate processes for my team, and writing documentation and training aids. But I was also asked about automating what may have seemed a daunting task.

In our environment of providing security support for all employees, we also support over 2000 UNIX servers, hosting various versions of UNIX from several major vendors. Our group also releases, secures and maintains the passwords for the root (super) user on these servers.

Compliance with a requirement to periodically change root's password meant having many people work overtime for a day or two. So, this Summer I had a lot of fun developing some new tools which use a variety of scripted programs, and one called "Expect" to automate the process.

Now, I run this new process overnight once per month, costing the company just two to four hours of overtime for one person.

Pretty cool, huh? Out of that project, several other spiffy tools have been released. I must say I really like that job.

    Nice Gallery Sale!

I am happy to exclaim the sale of one of my favorite works! A designer in Italy has purchased Network1 and all rights to it's exclusive use.

I'm not certain yet where the image may appear on their site(s), but the company's site linked in the gallery is ScienceDev.

I've decided to donate half the proceeds to Katrina Relief Efforts.

    Keep Coming Back!

Drop me a note and let me know what's news with youz!

Keep in touch, and come back to the website now and then to see what's new!

    Time and Space

    God,

Life is complex. This planet's forces are those you designed as part of the means. Yet, we often want to blame you and one another when we find ourselves in the path of Nature.

Help us each to help each other. Help us to remember that there is so much more to the cycle of life and Nature's ways on this little ball than our desires and wishes.

Please come to, comfort and bless those who are lost and have found themselves in fear and alone.

Forever grateful to God for His given blessings, I'll never say enough about what His presence and meaning are to me in my life...

See you soon! Be careful out there!
